Israel-Palestine, Conflict concerns the two-state balance in Jaishankar’s words

The Modi government’s message in international circles and domestic politics, New Delhi favors maintaining a balance between Palestine and Israel. On that basis, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar expressed concern about the situation in Gaza at the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council late last night. At the same time, he said, terrorist attacks and abductions are absolutely unacceptable.

Addressing the Human Rights Council via video from New Delhi last night, Jaishankar said, “The Israel-Gaza war should not spread further within the country or beyond its borders.

A two-state solution is needed, where the people of Palestine can live within secure borders. Laws protecting human rights must be respected at all times.” Earlier, the Foreign Minister clarified India’s position on Palestine at the Munich Security Conference. Yesterday, he said, “India has been talking about a two-state solution for a long time. We have been adamant about this position for decades. And now many other countries in the world are talking about a six-state solution. It is becoming more urgent day by day.”
