Major cannabis bust in Tripura, police nab five, seize stash worth lakhs

In a significant crackdown on illicit drug activities, Tripura Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), apprehended five individuals and seized a massive haul of 175 kgs of cannabis from Matambari village in the Sepahijala district in the early hours of February 25. Acting on actionable intelligence, law enforcement officers swiftly mobilized, with approximately 50 personnel participating in the joint operation.

“We received a tip-off regarding a sizable cannabis consignment. Teaming up with the BSF, we conducted a raid at the residence of Sukant Pal in Matambari village. Upon arrival, suspects were caught red-handed in the illegal production of dry cannabis packets in the backyard. They attempted to flee but were promptly apprehended per police directives,” stated authorities.

The arrested individuals, identified as Sukanta Pal (27), Bhabatosh Sutradhar (55), Abul Kashem (40), Mirjahan Mia (34), and Zainal Abdin (39), are now in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
